The prehistoric Belilena Cave, located just a few kilometers from the town, has yielded some of the oldest skeletal remains of modern humans in Asia, dating back over 32,000 years. The discovery of “Balangoda Man” (Homo sapiens balangodensis) and ancient tools has shed light on Sri Lanka’s prehistoric past, making the region a fascinating destination for history enthusiasts.
